This Week: The Theogony
The Theogony is an 8th cent. BCE text attributed to the poet Hesiod. It details the birth of the universe and the gods, as well as how Zeus came to power and established his rule.
Because it is both short and dense, we’ll read the entire poem and discuss it together this week. A free online version is available HERE. There are also many fine translations you can find elsewhere (in print and online).
Come prepared with questions, favorite passages, or just to discuss your favorite Greek gods with likeminded friends. Light refreshments will be served.
