This Week: Beowulf
Beowulf is an Old English poem set in the 5th or 6th century that recounts the heroic deeds of its eponymous warrior.
We’ll be reading the second half of the poem this week (line 1678 to the end) which concludes the epic fights with the monster Grendel’s mother and the dragon. We’ll be using the Seamus Heaney translation, though any version will do, including online free versions such as this one.
Come prepared with questions, favorite passages, or just to discuss your favorite Anglo-Saxon hero with likeminded friends.
Please be advised that there is a flight of stairs leading down to the meeting area.
