This Week: Jaan Puhvel’s Comparative Mythology

We’re taking a short break from heroes and epics and reading some experts from scholar Jaan Puhvel’s Comparative Mythology, which traces similarities across Indo-European mythologies.

We’ll read the sections on Germanic and Baltic and Slavic Myth (pp 189-240). The book can be found in most university libraries. Some scholars have also shared versions of it online.

Come prepared with questions, favorite passages, or just to discuss your favorite Germanic or Slavic gods with likeminded friends.
