This Week: Beowulf
Beowulf is an Old English poem set in the 5th or 6th century that recounts the heroic deeds of its eponymous warrior.
We’ll be reading the first half of the poem this week (up to line 1677) which concludes the epic fight with the monster Grendel. We’ll be using the Seamus Heaney translation, though any version will do, including online free versions such as this one.
Come prepared with questions, favorite passages, or just to discuss your favorite Anglo-Saxon hero with likeminded friends.
Please be advised that there is a flight of stairs leading down to the meeting area.
